Building Leadership Excellence: Basic Leader Course and Dedicated Training Centre
Advanced Forces Group designed, delivered, and fully managed the Basic Leader Course for the Operational Commands of the Netherlands Army. Going beyond curriculum development, AFG established a dedicated Mobile Training Centre to ensure scalable, high-quality leadership development for NCOs.
13th Light Brigade (Royal Netherlands Army)
13th Light Brigade was the initiator of this project and is a key unit within the Royal Netherlands Army, focused on operational readiness and the development of future leaders who can excel in complex, modern security environments.
Rapidly Upskilling Junior Leaders for Modern Operations
Facing increasing operational complexity and hybrid threats, the brigade needed a scalable, practical solution to train junior leaders in combat mindset, tactical command, and leadership under stress. Existing training resources and facilities were insufficient to meet growing demands for quality and throughput.
Turnkey Leadership Program and Purpose-Built Training Centre
AFG assumed full responsibility for the Basic Leader Course, creating a three-week, modular program combining operational classroom/OPS room training and field training, experiential learning, and real-world leadership scenarios. To support this, AFG established a dedicated training centre—equipped with classrooms, accommodations, logistical support, and all necessary infrastructure. This centre enabled year-round delivery, scalability, and a consistent standard of excellence. AFG’s experienced instructors and support staff ensured seamless execution, empowering the brigade to rapidly upskill new leaders and strengthen operational effectiveness.

They teach from experience, can adapt to our way of working and our department culture. They guide and coach the recruits to the next level. They also share their routines and experience with our instructors, ensuring continuous development and mutual learning.
